Steel Member Measurement Worksheet
Record steel member marks, counts, lengths and documented unit-weight bases in a blank CSV worksheet, separate from a priced steel BOQ.
Use this worksheet to retain member-level inputs before preparing the structural steel quantity schedule. It records how a quantity was derived rather than presenting a finished priced package.
Start with member identity and source
Record the drawing reference, member mark, specified section or grade, count and cut-length basis. Reconcile plans and schedules so a member is not counted in both an assembly total and a separate list. Keep unresolved connections, supports or missing details visible as clarifications.
Calculate weight only from a documented basis
For members described by a verified pounds-per-foot unit weight, count x cut length in feet x unit weight gives a calculated weight in pounds. Record the source of that unit weight. Do not substitute a generic building-area factor or infer a section from an unconfirmed drawing. Other products, plates or assemblies may need a different quantity and weight basis.
Keep fabrication and erection boundaries clear
Separate member weight from connection material, decking, joists, coatings and installation scope. The CSV is blank and has no automatic formulas, section database, fabrication allowance or prices. Check any calculations added to the working copy. The steel calculator supports stated inputs; it does not choose structural members or establish engineering adequacy.
Transfer reviewed quantities to the BOQ only after reconciling member counts, drawing revisions and excluded work. Review steel estimating scope or request a quote.
