Estimate pricing reference
Construction Cost Basis & Pricing Inputs
A useful cost estimate records where each rate came from, when it applies and what it includes. Use this checklist to prepare pricing inputs for your project; ask for the agreed pricing basis in your quote.
- Itemized quantity schedules
- Defined trade boundaries
- Drawing-based scope
- Project-specific quote
Rate Sources and Scope Checks
| Cost component | Input to identify | Checks before use |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Supplier quotation or specified material input | Unit, quantity, quote date, freight, tax and exclusions |
| Labor | Project wage requirements and agreed labor basis | Crew mix, burden, labor units, access and working hours |
| Equipment | Rental or operating-cost input | Duration, utilization, mobilization, fuel and attachments |
| Subcontract | Scope-specific subcontractor quotation | Inclusions, exclusions, alternates and validity |
| Allowances | Explicit unresolved scope or cost assumption | Purpose, basis and treatment in the final bid |
Compare Rates on the Same Basis
Units and assemblies
Check whether a rate applies to material supply, installed work or a complete assembly. A pipe supply price per foot cannot be directly compared with a trench installation price that includes excavation, bedding and restoration. Keep units and cost inclusions beside the line item.
Location and date
Project location, pricing date, supplier availability, wage requirements and site conditions affect the estimate. A statewide multiplier cannot resolve every project condition. Review applicable requirements and current quotes for the specific job rather than treating a nationwide example as a verified local price.
Productivity and uncertainty
Document the crew, working hours, equipment and production assumptions. Separate measured quantities from allowances for unresolved scope. Identify contingency, overhead and profit treatment so a contractor can review them before bid submission.
Using a reference responsibly
This page is a pricing-input checklist. It does not publish a live market-rate database or validated national unit prices. Confirm your required cost sources, pricing date and estimate scope in the project quote.
