Material Yield and Coverage Inputs
Convert specified package sizes and manufacturer coverage inputs into auditable material quantities.
Use product-specific yield data
Package size, coverage and material yield depend on the specified product and application. This resource explains how to organize the inputs; it does not supply universal manufacturer yields.
| Material | Input needed | Quantity method | | --- | --- | --- | | Sheet material | Usable area per specified sheet | Round up measured area ÷ sheet area after the selected allowance | | Paint | Coverage per gallon and number of coats | Area × coats ÷ product coverage | | Bagged product | Documented yield per bag | Required volume ÷ documented bag yield | | Linear product | Usable length per purchased item | Review measured length against actual cut layout | | Masonry unit | Nominal face dimensions including joint | Net wall area ÷ nominal face area, then review special units |
Separate net quantity and procurement
A geometric takeoff and a purchasing schedule answer different questions. Record net area or volume first, then show any allowance and purchasing rounding separately. Coverage should state substrate, thickness, application method and coat assumptions where relevant.
For example, 640 SF divided by a specified 32 SF panel gives 20 panels before allowances and cut-layout review. This arithmetic does not determine panel thickness, fastening, layout or design suitability.
Use the painting quantity calculator and lumber panel calculator with project inputs. Replace illustrative defaults with documented product data; list excluded accessories and installation scope.
